An elderly woman has died after being struck by a suspected hit-and-run driver in Hammersmith.

The incident happened in Glenthorne Road near the junction with Studland Street on Saturday at around 8.30pm.

The pedestrian victim, a 70-year-old woman who lived near the junction, was taken to hospital but pronounced dead on arrival.

She been formally identified but her name will not be released until an inquest is opened.

In the early hours of Sunday morning a 27-year-old woman, who police confirmed was the driver, voluntarily attended a West London police station.

She was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and was bailed after giving her account of the incident.
