A trio of Feltham cops will be giving the beat a miss and resting their weary legs this week after cycling all the way from Land's End to John O'Groats.

The determined PCs were putting their pedal power to good use in the second leg of an ambitious fundraiser in memory of Isleworth mum Sheryl Lockyer.

PC Lee Honey, of Hanworth police, was joined on the bike tour by fellow PCs Bobby Boothroyd and Adam Wyn-Jones, while PCSO Will Hudson accompanied them by van.

They were raising cash for Macmillan Cancer Support, who provided care for PC Honey's cousin, Sheryl, before her death from  breast cancer last Christmas.

PC Honey said: "Sheryl was a very special woman to all my family. I told her about this bike ride before she died so I knew I was going to have to go through with it."

The cyclists headed out from Land's End on July 25 and headed north until they reached John O'Groats on August 7.

The money raised from the sponsored cycle will now be added to cash raised by PC Honey's family at a ball they organised last month, making a total of £25,000.

"Sheryl would be so proud to know how much we've raised," added PC Honey. "The Macmillan nurses do an amazing job and hopefully we'll raise even more for them in the future."
