The owners of the Duke on the Green pub were woken early this morning by smoke seeping out of their basement.

Luckily ten people, including the owners with their young family and the manager, managed to get out of the two storeys of flats above the pub without any injuries before London Fire Brigade arrived at the popular Parsons Green pub after being called at 6:56am.

Four fire engines and 20 firefighters and officers tackled the blaze which turned out to be a small fire producing a lot of smoke in the basement, damaging a small section of that floor.

The fire was under control at 7:28am and the manager of the Young's pub has assured customers they are open as usual and ready for a busy weekend ahead.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
