NEIGHBOURS are relieved their parking ‘nightmare’ may soon be resolved by the council.

Families living in Pinner Green, opposite Tesco supermarket, are unable to park outside their homes in the bays, which are subject to a day time parking restriction, and have been calling for residential parking.

After being lobbied by the local ward councillor on the issue, Harrow Council has decided to consult with the community on whether to introduce residential parking permits.

Jo Massey, 26, of Pinner Green, said: “It is a nightmare. I moved in two years ago and I think I have had two tickets in that time. Luckily my mum lives just round the corner so I can park outside her house, but I don’t know what other people do.”

Ms Massey added: “The permits will make a difference. It depends how much they are but it would make everything a lot easier.”

Neighbour Liz Swierkosz doesn’t own a car, but said: “So many of my family members have had parking tickets as they get you so fast, even people dropping things off who have parked for less than two minutes get a ticket.

“As I don’t have a car I wouldn’t be getting one, but it is definitely something I will ask my family about.”

Pinner ward councillor Stephen Wright said: “This has been going on for the last 10 years. We have finally got a consultation to go through which means the people in those houses can park outside, unless there are any major objections.”

Portfolio holder for environment and community safety, councillor Phillip O’Dell said: “We listened to our residents’ requests for residential parking in this area and will shortly be carrying out a public consultation. This is to make sure that the changes are supported by the majority of people and that the opportunity is given for formal objections to be made.

“If the bays are given the go-ahead by the community, residents will require a permit to park during the operational hours, which would also be part of the consultation.”

Permits, in line with charges for resident permits across the borough, would cost £60 for one car then rise by £30 for each subsequent vehicle.
