PUPILS and staff at a high school are celebrating becoming the first London-based school to receive a national award for sports leadership.

Park High School, in Thistelcroft Gardens, Stanmore, held an assembly on Thursday, April 24 and was awarded Sports Leader UK Leadership Academy Status by Sports Leader UK.

Assistant head teacher Neil Darby said: “We believe that the skills and qualities developed during these awards will help to shift pupils’ disposition towards learning and in turn support them in their journey through life.”

John Gray, foundation manager for London, represented Sports Leader UK, which decides which institutions should be given the prestigious award, and recognises a commitment from schools to offer a range of leadership opportunities, at the assembly.

Mr Gray said: “I would like to congratulate Park High School on becoming the first London-based school to be awarded Sports Leaders UK Leadership Academy status. To do this shows the school’s hard work and commitment by both the staff and leaders themselves. Both the leaders and staff should be very proud to be part of a school with this recognition.”

The school has also recently become a Youth Sport Trust Gold Partner, which recognises the high quality of sport and physical education at Park High School.
