THIS Sunday (7) elderly people from across West London are being encouraged to get out of the house and try something new.

Named Silver Sunday, the whole day has been set up to provide older people a chance to try new things, stay active, meet new people and combat loneliness.

The pilot, which is being led by Westminster Council with the support of Hammersmith and Fulham and Kensington and Chelsea Councils came as a response to figures revealing that a third of people over the age of 75 admit to being lonely and often do not leave their house for days at a time.

Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care at Kensington and Chelsea council, councillor Fiona Buxton, said: “We hope everyone will join in and make it an enjoyable day.

“There is something to suit all tastes, and Silver Sunday is a great opportunity to celebrate the contribution our older residents make.”
