A husband and wife team who run a Brentford opticians have been hailed for their forward thinking after meeting Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
Kanwaldeep Koonar and wife Sangeeta, of Worton Road, Isleworth, were invited along to the informal honouring of entrepreneurs by health minister Ann Keen, who was impressed with their plans to improve health care.
The couple, who own two opticians, including Fantaseyes in Brentford High Street, are spearheading a campaign supported by the Brentford and Isleworth MP to improve efficiency in the NHS and help avoid the spread of super bugs such as MRSA.
"There is a lot of work that doesn't need to be done in hospitals that brings in extra people traffic and therefore extra dirt and germs," said Mr Koonar.
"If things such as diabetic screening for eyes could be carried out in private practices it would be much easier and cleaner. If funds were directed in the right way this could happen."
"I told Gordon Brown about it and he seemed very interested."
