More than 250 people have signed a petition to oppose plans for a 50 bedroom hotel.

Owners of The Golden Cross pub in Botwell Lane, Hayes, submitted the plans for a three storey building and an under-ground car park with 26 spaces to Hillingdon Council in August, but opponents believe this will cause excessive traffic problems for the road.

Sharon Kilbane, a resident of Botwell Lane, said: "We just don't need a hotel here, there is no call for it, and I think the reason so many people are objecting to it is because we already have a massive hotel being developed near Hayes station which will increase traffic as it is."

Councillor Mo Khursheed, said: "We have enough problems with traffic at the moment so I can understand why people are so opposed to the development, if it goes ahead residents will be extremely disappointed.

"It's surprising that these plans are being approved, the traffic officers have said they do not think the hotel development will create a significant traffic problem but they are not aware of the local area and the sort of problems we have."

The application was due to be heard last night (Tuesday).
