ROADWORKS will disrupt traffic through Ruislip and Eastcote for up to a year because of major gas works.
National Grid plc are starting their 'essential' maintenance to gas pipes in the area as part of a multi-million-pound programme of pipe replacement.
It will mean periodically closing westbound lanes on Pembroke Road, Park Way, Elm Avenue and North View between May 2010 and April 2011.
Works will also be undertaken in Fore Street, High Road and Cuckoo Hill in Eastcote. Affected residents will be notified.
Anthony Quarrell, from National Grid, told the Gazette: "It is part of our essential gas main replacement programme. We are replacing the old metallic gas pipes with new hard-wearing plastic pipes made from Polyethylene, to ensure people can enjoy safe, secure gas supplies in future years.
"It is part of our £5.4million programme across Ealing, Harrow and Hillingdon and will commence in Kingsend on 4 May, continuing until April 2011."
