OLYMPIC swimmers Mark Foster and Sarah Price were at Hillingdon's new pool recently to get a Swimfit programme off the starting block.

Last Wednesday the pair showed just why they are - respectively - eight times world record breaker and six times world champion in freestyle and butterfly, and former world 200m backstroke champion and record holder.

Swimfit, however, is more for the leisure swimmer.

Mr Foster, who looked a bit out of his depth on Strictly Come Dancing but knows a thing or two in the pool, said: "Hillingdon's new sports and leisure complex is wicked.

"Swimming is something that can save lives for two reasons: One, it can save you from drowning and two, it keeps you fit and healthy.

"We've just celebrated teaching more than 10,000 children to swim and, hopefully, by 2012 we might get that figure up to 100,000."

There will be sessions each week at the pool, part of Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Complex in Gatting Way, Uxbridge.
