THE Old Vinyl Factory (TOVF) – the former home of manufacturing for EMI – could again become a centre of industry as well as an attractive place to live.

Property developer Purplexed has submitted proposals for an ambitious £250million ‘revival’ project which would transform the Hayes landscape and provide thousands of jobs and hundreds of homes.

In the panel, you can see what the developers have in store.

First home to The Gramophone Company and then to EMI following a takeover in the 1930s, the site off Blyth Road was given over to the war effort during the Second World War.

With record sales dropping and heavy industry starting to move out of the area in ensuing decades, the factory closed in the 1980s, and the area has been a blot on the landscape since, largely sealed off from the public and left to deteriorate.

Formerly known as London Gate, the new owners renamed the site shortly after acquiring the land in May 2011, with the intention of restoring the vibrancy the area enjoyed in the first half of the 20th century, when thousands of workers streamed on to the site each day.

A consultation on the plans has opened, and people have until August 20 to comment on the application.

A decision date has been set for November, but it is unlikely the plans will be considered by Hillingdon Council until the new year.

You can view the application and submit your comments on the council’s planning portal. TOVF’s bid is split into three applications: 59872/APP/2012/1840, 59872/APP/2012/1839 and 59872/APP/2012/1838
