DISGRACED councillor Ian Oakley has been dismissed from Hillingdon Council.

A council spokesperson said: "Ian Oakley will no longer be a councillor in Hillingdon with immediate effect.

"The council takes any cases of harassment or criminal damage very seriously, and in particular the distress caused to the victims.

"This sentence sends a strong message to all those in public office about the behaviour expected of them and of the consequences they may face if they do not behave in an appropriate way."

The 31-year-old Northwood councillor of Ryeland Close, West Drayton, was given a custodial sentence of 18 weeks suspended for 12 months at St Albans Magistrates' Court yesterday (Monday).

He was also given a 12 month supervision order and made to pay £587 in compensation to three victims and £70 court costs.

A Northwood by-election will be held within 35 days.
