A NURSERY based at the house where Robert Louis Stevenson worked on Treasure Island celebrated after winning its battle for survival.
Tasneem Ramji set up 9 Months Nursery, in The Grove, Isleworth, where the author spent his summers and wrote part of his classic adventure novel, 13 years ago.
She faced being booted out because the property was being repossessed but after a two-year struggle she was able to get the money together to buy the whole building.
The nursery has now expanded from the basement to occupy the ground floor too, doubling in size to take 50 children.
The two storeys above have been split into three flats.
Around 40 children and their parents enjoyed a bouncy castle and face painting at a party on Monday to celebrate the official launch of the new, larger premises.
“I thought we were going to have to close because we couldn’t find anywhere else suitable for the nursery, so I’m relieved to still be here,” said Ms Ramji, who cut the ribbon with Hounslow's deputy mayor Corinna Smart.
