Husband and wife team Jag and Shushma Kumar know all about the demands of running a business, having owned two nurseries for the past 20 years.

Now they are hoping to achieve equal success with a new venture, selling something they are both passionate about – Indian food.

The couple put their 'naanwiches' – naan bread sandwiches – to the test at the intu Taste Food Festival, where they ran a stall for two days in August.

And after proving a hit with customers – selling out on both days – the shopping centre has now invited them to use one of its units for 12 weeks starting from January 3.

If the pop-up shop is successful, the couple plan to keep Naked Naan open permanently in High Street, Uxbridge.

The 240 sq ft shop – formerly home to milkshake business Happy Days and attached to intu Uxbridge – will sell naans filled with everything from traditional Keema to banana and chocolate spread.

Mrs Kumar, 51, said: “We've taken the concept of Indian food and made it grab-and-go.

“Hopefully Uxbridge will like it. They liked it for two days, so we will see after 12 weeks.”

The couple hope to turn the pop-up shop in Uxbridge High Street into a permanent business

The couple, who live in Buckinghamshire, plan to continue running Premier Nurseries, which has branches in St John's Road, Uxbridge, and Iver, Buckinghamshire, alongside the new business if things take off.

Mother-of-two Mrs Kumar said: “Basically the nurseries run themselves because of the great staff and this is really a passion. It's something I've always wanted to do but it's hard when you've got young children.”
