A BRIGHT young inventor from Northwood has been chosen as a finalist in a national science and engineering competition.

Teenager Benjamin Lucas-Lee was chosen for his ‘green’ transport design, The Electrike.

The electricity-powered mini bike is an environmentally friendly transport option designed to help people scoot about town therefore reducing traffic in busy cities.

“Anyone can use the product with minimal effort making it ideal for commuters as well as tourists,” said Benjamin.

His design will be judged in the National Science and Engineering Competition at The Big Bang Fair at London’s ExCeL Centre between March 14-17.

Benjamin, who attended Merchant Taylors’ School near Watford, will join 450 finalists aged 11-18 from across the UK in the contest to be crowned UK Young Scientist or UK Young Engineer Of The Year.

Entrants’ inventions should attempt to transform the world they live in.

Judge Mark Champkins said, “It’s fantastic to see such a passion amongst these finalists to transform their world for the better.

“This kind of thinking should be encouraged at every step as it plays an increasingly important part in the future growth of our economy.”

The talented teen gained his A-levels, including two A* grades, in 2012, and is now studying aeronautics at Imperial College London.
