HUNDREDS of cyclists got on their bikes in Northwood for an annual charity bike ride in the sunshine.

About 200 people joined in this year's 'On Yer Bike For Care' sponsored bike ride on Sunday in aid of Michael Sobell House, based at Mount Vernon Hospital, in Rickmansworth Road, Northwood.

The riders had a choice of either a 12 or a 23 mile route through some of the beautiful countryside and scenery of Northwood, Swakeleys, Ruislip, Ickenham and Uxbridge.

Ophelia Chambers-Henry, the events and community fundraising manager for the hospice, said: "The event was a great success. The weather was perfect, we had more riders than ever before and the whole day went smoothly with lots of smiling faces.

"Our bike ride has become one of the most popular fundraising events we host and we are very grateful to the Elthorne & Hillingdon Rotary Club, Paul Miller of Ruislip Specialized Concept Store and our wonderful volunteers without whom it wouldn’t have been possible."

The sponsorship for the ride is still being collected but it is hoped last year's total of £7,000 will be beaten.
