A man escaped a serious fire in a Northolt workshop when the entire site went up in flames.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) was called to The Transport Yard, in Wood End Gardens, at around 3.45pm on Saturday (January 31).

The man escaped from the single-storey building before the brigade arrived, but suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation.

A spokesman from LFB said: "The entire workshop was damaged by fire and the blaze also affected three propane cylinders that crews cooled down.

"A 25m exclusion zone was set up as a precaution because some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat.

"Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers attended the incident from Wembley and Northolt fire stations."

LFB said the fire was under control by 5.45pm and the cause of the blaze is under investigation.

Dave Dwyer, chairman of Wood End Residents Association, said that a fire engine remained at the scene at 9.45pm on Saturday and reported that police had also been at the incident.

Mr Dwyer said he had received reports from nearby residents of flames, smoke, and a series of bangs or explosions.

Two people were also rescued from a Northolt house fire in Mount Pleasant by a passer-by last week.
