WE DEFINITELY need faster travel between the north and south of the borough (Cash plea for north-south bus routes, Uxbridge Gazette, July 1).

However, from where we live, the proposals would not be of much benefit as there would still not be a direct route.

Our local bus stop is Oak Farm Library, in Long Lane, Hillingdon. To travel to West Ruislip station (about two miles away), we have to take the U2 bus back into Uxbridge (at least 20 minutes) and then the U1 to West Ruislip. We have to allow about one hour for this journey. Also, those of us who can't manage the stairs at Ickenham and Ruislip stations have to use the same route to reach either of these destinations.

So what would meet our needs is a bus route that follows the route of the school bus (698), travelling down Long Lane, through to Ickenham, West Ruislip and Ruislip. There used to be one years ago.
