SCOUTS showed off skills at an open day designed to entice new members.

The 4th Headstone Scouts practised activities at its scout hut in Northumberland Road, North Harrow, on Saturday in an event to showcase its headquarters and what the scouts do.

The scouts demonstrated cooking and branding wood and used the hut’s indoor climbing wall, while the younger beavers hand decorated cakes and the cubs painted plaster casts they had created.

A few local councillors toured the facilities and agreed it would be a good venue for future meetings.

Group scout leader Jacob Gloor said: “We had a good turnout all throughout the day, and we had six potential beavers sign on, three cubs and two scouts.

“It was successful day. It was the first time we’d held an open day and we’ll probably do it again.”

The group is appealing for new adult volunteers and the commitment may be as little as once a week or once a month.
