DRIVERS are being advised to avoid A406 and A40 roads in the Hangar Lane area after a lorry overturned earlier today. The A406 North Circular was closed in both directions between Hanger Lane Gyratory and Harrow Road A404 after a collision involving two lorries and two cars at 12.34pm today (Tuesday).

Transport for London (TfL) said work was underway to restore some lanes, but serious congestion likely throughout the rest of the day and evening.

In a statement it said: "The A406 is currently closed in both directions between the Hanger Lane Gyratory and Harrow Road A404 and there is serious congestion on all approaches to the area – including the A40."

Leon Daniels, managing director of surface transport at TfL added: "Our staff and contractors are working to minimise disruption to drivers on the A406 and A40, working with the emergency services to re-open as much of the North Circular as we can as soon as possible.  But this was a serious collision, which has damaged a large section of the central reservation.

"At present the A406 is closed in both directions around Hangar Lane and the A40 in the area is also seriously affected."TfL’s staff and contractors are currently working with the police to re-open as much of the road and signs have been deployed on the A40 and A406 to advise drivers to take other routes.
