A FAMILY man with a passion for running has completed his 70th marathon, with no signs of slowing down.
Jagjit Singh, nicknamed Marathon Singh, ran in the Leicester marathon on Sunday to reach the milestone, after more than eight years of putting on his running shoes for charity.
The father-of-two, a manager at airline catering company LG Sky Chefs who lives in Minterne Waye, Hayes, has so far raised more than £16,000, with much of his sponsorship going towards Get Kids Going, a charity promoting sport among children with disabilities.
Mr Singh’s first race was the London Marathon back in May 2004, which he has run four more times since. He has entered marathons across Europe, Morocco, Africa, New York City and India.
He said: “I really enjoy it, but I didn’t think I would still be doing marathons aged 52!”
Mr Singh’s goal is to race in South America, next year, before setting his sights on a 100th full marathon in Antarctica, so he can scratch off all seven continents of the world. Mr Singh, who trains in Minet Country Park and Hayes town, said he wants to set a good example for young people to get involved in sport.
