HARROW'S war heroes have been snubbed again by not having a ceremony at the new war memorial.

It is now more than three years since the unveiling of the memorial, and it is still without the names of Harrow's war heroes.

While collecting for BLESMA (British Limbless Ex-Servicemen Association) - with a massive response from the people of Harrow - I spoke to more than 1,000 people, asking if they were local and did they think we should have the names of our heroes on the memorial. There was not one person against this suggestion.

I ask Councillor Chris Mote why we have not had this done after all these years?

The memorial was built in response to a petition with a total of 6,500 signatures - 1,500 to have it built and 5,000 to have the names on. They did not take any notice of these petitions. Surely 60 years and more is too long to be without a proper memorial.

We are willing to pay the £1,060 to have this done, and maybe to have a book of remembrance as well as.

Show some respect, Mr Mote. You have been aware of this since you took office. I handed you the petition personally.

I appeal to Harrow councillors to do the decent thing for our war heroes and show respect. With our boys being killed every day, our own family included, we are constantly reminded of loved ones who gave their lives for freedom.

Our memorial looks so forlorn and in need of being completed as a war memorial.

These men need the respect they deserve. The man still holding up the work is Mr Mote.
