THE idea that a 28-month sentence for killing a defenceless man after a local football match is a 'severe sentence' is just laughable (page 2, Uxbridge Gazette, July 8).

No wonder this kind of thing is happening nationwide. What do thugs have to fear?

Darren Forwood had already had previous convictions for assault.

In the Gazette the same week, a burglar was given a three-year sentence. Where is the justice?

These days a human life is worth next to nothing.

My sympathy goes out to all of Steve Richie's family and friends.
