WHILE First Great Western has removed all mention of Connect services from its timetables, it seems that BAA/Connect has also failed to work with Transport for London for two weekends when the Piccadilly Line has been closed for engineering work.
Transport for London (TfL) advertised all over the Underground that Travelcards for zones one to six and Freedom Passes were valid on Heathrow Express and Connect services between Paddington or Ealing Broadway or Hayes and Harlington to and from Heathrow 1/2/3 and T5 (Heathrow Express (HEX)) and T4 (Connect).
I don't know about HEX, but every Connect train I travelled on over these two weekends from Paddington to Hayes and Harlington loudly announced - as usual - that Travelcards and Freedom Passes were NOT valid beyond Hayes and Harlington, that is, into Heathrow.
So while TfL was advertising one thing, Connect was stating something totally different over its public address system.
Even if these announcements were automated, neither the driver nor any ticket-checking staff counteracted the announcement.
I saw at least one set of passengers with luggage get off the train at Hayes and Harlington to catch a 140 bus into Heathrow. I couldn't warn them that their Travelcards might be valid as I too heard the usual announcement that they were not.
BAA really does need to learn how to run a simple out-and-back train service and stop confusing passengers (sorry, customers).
