SO HARROW residents have a zero per cent council tax rise - good news - well, maybe. But I can't help wondering what we're going to lose as a result.
Last year, the play equipment at Lowlands Road Open Space, the only children's playground in Greenhill ward, was removed. On enquiry this turned out to be because the play equipment had been allowed to become so dilapidated it was no longer safe.
When asked when it was going to be replaced (I had had an idea or two about what could be put there) it transpired there was not enough cash in the parks budget to replace anything - not even a slide and a couple of swings!
The council has selected some playgrounds in Harrow for refurbishment but the money for this comes from the government as part of Labour's commitment to child welfare.
If it wasn't for this, other playgrounds in Harrow might well follow in Lowlands' sorry footsteps.
