A new gynaecology clinic has opened at West Middlesex Hospital.

Chief executive Tara Donnelly yesterday officially opened the unit in Twickenham House, which has been open since May in the space previously occupied by the substance misuse unit.

The clinic was previously located in the Queen Mary’s Women’s Health unit and moved due to the planned expansion of the maternity unit incorporating a new natural birth centre.

Heather Hall, Head of Clinical Services, who is the manager of the clinic said: "The new space is far more patient friendly and better than being sited in the maternity department as the nature of gynaecology means that some women may be sensitive about seeing pregnant women and babies."

The clinic also has its own ultrasound room solely for the use of clinic patients instead of sharing with maternity.
