A new principal has been appointed to replace teacher Dame Sally Coates at Burlington Danes Academy in White City.
Michael Ribton, currently senior vice principal at the ARK secondary, will take the reins on an interim basis from September, as Dame Sally moves to new role at academy chain United Learning.
Mr Ribton said: "I am so thrilled and proud to lead BDA from September. I am extremely confident in our teachers and pupils and we shall continue to improve the academy. Our plan is to be not just outstanding but exceptional."
He arrived with Dame Sally at Burlington Danes six years ago, just as ARK Schools took over the then failing state school. The partnership has since overseen a dramatic turnaround, with Ofsted awarding the academy outstanding in all four assessment categories in November 2013.
Dame Sally said: “I will be extremely pleased to pass Burlington Danes into Michael’s safe hands. He has been pivotal to our success and I know the school will continue to do well under his leadership and direction. I offer him my congratulations.”
Mr Ribton says that he plans to build on the school’s success with further developments around resilience, stretching the most able pupils and increasing links with parents and the wider community.
Lord Stanley Fink, chair of governors at Burlington Danes, said: “We are delighted to announce that Michael Ribton, who is currently the senior vice principal at Burlington Danes Academy, has been appointed as acting principal, starting the job formally in September.
“Michael has thirty years of experience of working in inner city schools, including fourteen years in a senior leadership role. Before joining Burlington Danes, he was the deputy head at Holland Park School.”
