GANGS of youths causing trouble on the streets of Kensal Green with fireworks will be broken up thanks to a new order.
PCs and PCSOs can now separate gangs after a firework zone was was introduced on October 31.
The zone covers Hazel Road including the Open Space and Children's Playground; Greyhound Road including Pocket Park; The Basketball Court on the corner of Hazel and Greyhound Road; Earlsmead Road and St Margaret's Road. The order will run until 11.50am on November 14.
Anyone caught misbehaving can be banned for 24 hours. The zone was enforced by Brent Police and Brent Council after officers received more than 25 complaints within the last three months from worried residents concerned by gangs hanging around the playgrounds letting of fireworks.
Anyone found guilty of breaking the order can face up to three months imprisonment or a fine of up to £2,500.
Officers will regularly police the areas throughout the period of notice.
Sergeant Greg Wakefield, from Kensal Green Safer Neighbourhoods Team, said: "The police and council have received complaints about groups of individuals causing anti-social behaviour in this area and this includes incidents relating to firework nuisance in the ward. We hope this Firework Zone will give us the means to improve the quality of life for the local community and local businesses."
