Brent Council has elected its new Mayor for 2015-16.

Councillor Lesley Jones was elected at the full council AGM at Brent Civic Centre on Wednesday (May 20).

Having previously served as Deputy Mayor last year, Lesley has been a councillor for 17 years.

She lives in Dorris Hill, representing Willesden Green, and was once a schoolteacher in Nigeria before returning to Britain to continue her career in Southwark and Brent.

"I'm delighted to have been elected by my colleagues as Mayor of Brent for the coming year; there is a packed and exciting calendar of events and I look forward to meeting lots of residents, community groups and businesses,” said Cllr Jones.

“I would like to thank the outgoing Mayor Councillor Kana Naheerathan for his hard work last year."

Councillor Carol Shaw was also honoured at the AGM, for 25 years of service as a member. The council paid tribute to her contribution and showed appreciation for her outstanding public service.
