A NEW fundraising group has raised more than £500 for the Marie Curie Cancer Care appeal - launched by the charity and Ealing Gazette in July.
The appeal was launched to raise money locally to boost nursing care for people with cancer and other terminal illnesses in Ealing. The Gazette is asking our readers to help raise £170,000 through donations or fundraisers.
The local fundraising group, of mixed ages, was launched because of its local knowledge and enthusiasm. So far they have raised £422 from a quiz at the Drayton Court Hotel in Ealing and £157 from a collection outside Morrisons in Acton.
Claire Moss, community fundraiser for London, said: "We always wanted to set this up on the back of the appeal.
"This is the first one in west London and ideally it would be great to have one in every area.
"This group is amazing. They are so
keen and enthusiastic, and what is more important, they know about the Ealing area.
"They are always planning the next thing. We are very impressed with them."
She said the group's next project was a barn dance in the new year, but more people are needed to join the team.
The group is holding an arts and crafts fair, selling Marie Curie Christmas cards at St James' Church, St James Avenue, West Ealing tomorrow (Saturday) from 10am-4.30pm. [25cf] Anyone interested in joining the group, should call Claire on 07799 693 839 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
