THERE were smiles all round as a community garden was officially opened in Queen's Park.

The central green area at Queen's Park Court, in Ilbert Street, has been given new paths, plants, flower beds, trees and a bright new play area.

There are also higher fences and more secure access gates for added security.

The garden came about after more than 18 months of hard work by staff at Westminster Council's housing arm CityWest Homes (CWH) and residents.

Mark Hoyland, chief executive of CWH, cut the ribbon to mark the official opening, while Queen's Park ward councillor, Paul Dimoldenberg, planted a tree in honour of the occasion.

Michelle Doherty, who lives on the estate, said: "The green area is really nice. There's play equipment and equipment for older people.

"It's here for all of us to enjoy and I hope it stays that way."
