A NEGLECTED patch of land outside a community centre in Hounslow West has been transformed into a green oasis.

Fruit trees, play equipment and benches have sprung up outside The Hub, in Salisbury Road.

The area now known as The Green Space, was officially opened on Friday last week by councillor Lily Bath, Hounslow Council’s cabinet member for children’s services, and children from surrounding estates.

The new space cost about £40,000 and was funded by Sure Start Hounslow, based at The Hub, which runs services for young children and families.

About 100 people, including Feltham and Heston MP Seema Malhotra, joined a party to celebrate the launch, with entertainment including drumming, henna tattoos and face-painting.

Barbara Harvey, operations manager for Sure Start, said: “The Hub itself was constructed in 2006 but this marks the end of building work at the site. It’s a brilliant space for people of all ages, and it was great to see so many people enjoying it at the opening party.”
