AN HISTORIC boat dock, in ruin after 20 years of neglect, could be brought back to life.

Toll House, in Bull’s Bridge Road, Hayes, will be turned into a commercial coach park, 17 months after British Waterways, which owns land, first applied.

The proposals include the refurbishment of the Grade II listed building, which would be used as staff accommodation.

Two other cottages on the site, dating back to the 19th century, are beyond repair and are up for demolition to make way for bus depots and parking.

Spaces for boaters also featured on the plans.

Bulls Bridge was once an important spot on the Grand Union Canal when commercial traffic used to carry goods from Hayes and other industrial locations on its route.

Toll House sits at the spot where the canal divides into its main route and its Paddington arm, and as the name suggests, it was once the point where passing boaters had to pay a
charge.

The site falls within the Bull’s Bridge Conservation Area, and the proposals have been welcomed by the Hayes Conservation Area Advisory Panel.
