MARY Worrall of the London Borough of Hillingdon (LBH) was being disingenuous when she said the Northwood residents were consulted throughout the improvement works in Green Lane (New traffic lights 'causing chaos', Northwood and Rickmansworth Gazette, February 10).
While we were consulted on the improvements to the road and pavements, we were not consulted on the traffic lights. The Northwood Residents' Society, representing a large number of residents, expressed objections to LBH officers and councillors, but we were told that there was no formal method of consultation on traffic safety measures as they were governed by legislation and professional guidance.
Our preference was for a pelican crossing replacing the existing zebra crossing, with an additional crossing in Eastbury Road.
Our objections were that the traffic lights would create extra traffic jams at busy times and probably drive people away from shopping in Northwood.
We will be discussing the traffic lights at our AGM at Oaklands Gate Methodist Church on March 16 at 7.30pm. Please come and make your views known so that we can pass them on to LBH.
