IT SEEMS clear that with UKIP doing so well at the European elections this country is still far from comfortable with its European membership, let alone full federalism.

I firmly believe that should a referendum on membership of the EU be held now we should see an overwhelming majority in favour of complete withdrawal.

As a supporter of European membership such a move would be disastrous to the well-being of this country.

Parties such as UKIP seek to blame all our problems on the EU, ignoring the many financial benefits we have received from our membership.

We no longer live in the 19th Century, we no longer control the world's biggest empire and we can no longer go it alone.

We are a small island off the north coast of Europe and we need all the help we can get.
