On Friday night Mr Owen, who lives in Eastcote Road, Ruislip, had just walked in to his house when a large tree crashed down metres from his front door.

"It was about 9.30pm and I was having a smoke on the doorstep and I could see some movement in next door's garden but I wasn't sure if it was a tree or a lampost blowing in the wind," said Mr Owen, who is 38.

"I didn't think much more of it then went back inside, but I hadn't even sat down before I heard this almighty crash.

"It shook the whole house."

Mr Owen was at home with his 7-year-old daughter, who he says was frightened of the storm.

The tree was in his neighbour's front garden and has crashed through the fence and bushes which separate their houses.

Some branches hit Mr Owen's car, but he said it is not damaged.

The neighbour is arranging for the tree to be removed.
