TORY councillor Paul Johnston takes Edward Davey - listed a 'saint' by the Daily Telegraph for turning down more than £100,000 in expenses during this Parliament alone - to task for paying for staff cover 'whatever that is'.

Like all Members of Parliament, Edward Davey employs staff to look into the problems which local people bring him.

Every MP does the same - it is part of the job. Sometimes those staff go on maternity leave, and sometimes those staff fall sick.

Last year one of Mr Davey's staff had a baby, and another was diagnosed with cancer. So it is a simple choice.

Either Mr Johnston would have done the same thing, in which case he is a hypocrite for attacking Mr Davey. Or Mr Johnston thinks employers should fire pregnant women, and people suffering from cancer. No wonder even Tories admit to being 'the Nasty Party'.

So which is it Mr Johnston? Was Mr Davey right to follow employment law and grant staff sickness and maternity leave, or would you rather that he broke the law and threw these people out on the street?
