A man awaiting sentence for drug dealing claimed during his trial that he had weighing scales to make fairy cakes.

Acting on a tip-off from the public, officers searched Narandraprasad Sookun's home in Ashford Avenue, Hayes, on August 7 last year, and discovered 1.177 kilograms of cannabis with a street value of around £5,000, self-seal bags, and four sets of electronic scales.

They also seized £1,330 in cash.

In his garden was a Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross suffering from multiple injuries, including a broken tail.

The RSPCA took the dog into their care, but it later had to be put down.

Sookun, 42, was arrested at the scene, and charged the following day with possession with intent to supply a class B drug, and possession of criminal property.

He denied the offences, but was convicted on Wednesday, February 26, at Isleworth crown court after a five-day trial.

He is due to be sentenced on Wednesday, March 26.

Detective Sergeant Jim Barry, of Hillingdon CID, said: "This positive result is a clear reminder of how intelligence from the public can crucially assist the police to tackle criminals and remove large quantities of drugs off the streets.

"Throughout the course of the investigation, Sookun has callously denied all knowledge of obtaining the drugs, and he has even claimed to have sets of weighing scales to make fairy cakes.

"Through solid intelligence and listening and acting on community concerns we can continue to take positive action and make Hillingdon safer."
