A DAY of music and 50s glamour will be held in Ickenham to welcome in the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

On Saturday, June 2 the Compass Theatre and Ickenham Library are teaming up to offer From Rations to Rock and Roll in the theatre's garden.

Fjóla Stenning, box office and audience development manager, said it would be a fun day.

She said: "It will be an exploration in verse, songs, prose and conversation about and inspired by the first decade of the reign of Elizabeth II, as part of Hillingdon's Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

"The event will include 1950s dancing, a Lyons Corner House style café, excerpts from radio programmes, Swing Music, performances from local school choirs and Compass Kids and even a quiz about ads from the 50sss.

"People of all ages are invited to join in with a selection of memories from a world we have lost, told through prose, poems and real-life memories of those that were there.

"Readings, performances and memory sharing will take place in the auditorium, out in the garden and in the Grade II Listed Ickenham Hall."

Entry is £2 on the day with the profits going to the Friends of Ickenham Hall.

In the evening there will be a showing of A Queen Is Crowned the colour film of the 1953 Coronation, narrated by Sir Lawrence Olivier, tickets for which are £5.
