SO, NOW we know that not only did our Labour MP not resign her ministerial post when she was instructed to vote in favour of Heathrow expansion, but that in

the event the Conservative prospective parliamentary candidate was to become a minister in a future government, she too would not consider Heathrow expansion (should the Conservatives change their minds) an issue for resignation.

Let us be clear. Both the Conservative and Labour candidates wishing to represent the residents of Brentford, Chiswick, Hounslow and Isleworth have put their own careers before the torment of local people created by increased air traffic.

The environmental crisis brought me into politics. In this constituency, where I grew up and still live, the greatest threat to our environment is increased traffic at Heathrow. Of all the candidates, I am the only one to have spent my summer holiday in 2007 in a tent at the Heathrow Climate Camp.

Just where were the others when I was there? As a green Liberal Democrat I believe strengthening our society and creating the right conditions for more jobs must be coupled with protecting the environment.

This week I will launch proposals to put airport expansion controls back in place by putting a Cranford agreement bill before parliament. Will the Labour and Conservative candidates buckle on this too? Please register your support for my proposed bill at www.andrewdakers.com.
