MP Virendra Sharma says the decision by Ealing Council to suspend car parking charges in Southall for two days this week will be a boost for business.

Parking charges are being suspended in Southall on October 22 and 23 to celebrate Diwali.

The move follows a request from Virendra Sharma, Labour MP for Ealing Southall , to Ealing Council to offer the free parking to support local businesses.

On Wednesday and Thursday this week shoppers will be able to park for free in any council-owned car park in Southall. These are:

  • Herbert Road multistory car park
  • Norwood Road 1 and 2
  • Featherstone Terrace
  • Southall Market

Charges will return to normal on Friday, 24 October.

Virendra Sharma MP said: "It is great news that the Council has agreed to grant free parking in car parks in the Southall area for Diwali. Constituents, shoppers and local businesses will certainly appreciate this incentive, which will boost business during this period and allow many more to enjoy the Diwali festivities. It is however disappointing that the decision has been taken so close to Diwali and leaves only a very short time to advertise.

"I hope that many will be able to enjoy the celebrations in Southall."
