HOUNSLOW MP Mary Macleod is urging west Londoners to join her and other MPs in a 'mega rally' to demonstrate against an expansion of Heathrow.
Environmental campaigner and MP, Zac Goldsmith, along with west London MPs from all parties, the Mayor of London and council leaders will take part in the demonstration on Saturday April 27.
Ms Macleod, MP for Brentford, Isleworth, Chiswick and Hounslow, said: "The Heathrow mega rally is a perfect opportunity for local residents to come together to reaffirm their opposition to any expansion at Heathrow. I would urge you to come along and bring family and friends. The more people we have, the stronger the message will be – no further expansion at Heathrow!”
She highlighted how the Government scrapped plans for expansion at Heathrow when it came into office and that building a third runway at Heathrow would not be enough in the long term. It would need a third and fourth runway which Ms Macleod says would simply not be tolerated by the residents of west London.
The rally comes after the Government announced last October that the Airports Commission would look at how to maintain the UK's aviation capacity. As part of this work, the expansion of Heathrow is an option.
Everyone is welcome at the event, which will take place at the Barn Elms Playing Fields in Barnes, Richmond on Saturday April 27 between 9:30am and 10:30am.
