THE MOTHER of Hounslow teenager Darrell Desuze, who killed a man in the Ealing riots, has been convicted of perverting the course of justice.

Lavinia Desuze, of Bath Road, Cranford, destroyed her son's clothing in a bid to protect him after he landed a fatal blow on Ealing pensioner Richard Bowes last August.

The 31-year-old was today found guilty at Inner London Crown Court after a three-day trial. She is due to be sentenced alongside her son, now 17, at the same court on April 17.

Former Isleworth & Syon School pupil Darrell Desuze, who was just 16 at the time of the attack, last week admitted manslaughter.

Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) London lawyer Gary Dolby said: "Although it is a mother’s instinct to protect her child this conviction shows that Lavinia Desuze’s actions were wholly inappropriate and criminal.

“In a bid to try and ensure her son would not be caught for the crimes he had committed Desuze destroyed the recognisable clothing he had been wearing.

“This act could have had a detrimental effect on the case against her son if it had been the primary evidence available.”
