A HEADTEACHER said his goodbyes at his school’s annual fun day after 15 years of service.

Reverend Alan Shaw founded Moriah Jewish Day School in Cannon Lane, Pinner, in 1998 and was given a send off at its annual Moriah Fun Day on Sunday. He is leaving to become headteacher at Hasmonean Primary School in Hendon, west London, at the end of the summer term.

The Friends of Moriah made an emotional presentation followed by the surprise viewing of a video featuring staff and pupils performing to the soundtrack of the YouTube hit song ‘Oseh Shalom’, originally sung by the Moriah Jewish Day School Choir.

There was also a performance from the school’s Israeli dance troupe and Mr Shaw conducted the choir for the last time.

Mr Shaw said: “I must thank the school for the wonderful surprise DVD and collection of farewell notes from the pupils and staff, which I will always treasure. It has been a pleasure and privilege to have steered Moriah during its first 15 years and I wish the school every success for the future.”

The school’s large fields and playground were full to capacity with funfair rides, stalls, refreshment kiosks and games stalls hosted by each class.

With a record 300 children and adults, the event raised £2,000, which will go towards equipment and books. It was also announced that as a result of a very successful fundraising year, the Friends of Moriah will be buying 60 Nexus Tablets for pupils, to assist their studies.

Tracey Dunn, chairperson of the Friends of Moriah committee which organised the event, said: “It was lovely to witness another hugely successful summer fun day here at our school. The children worked so hard on their stalls and should be very proud.

“All in all in was the perfect platform to say a fond farewell to our much loved head teacher. We wish him well in all his future endeavours.”

Mr Shaw added: “Once again the Friends of Moriah have organised a wonderful Summer Fun Day and deserve to be congratulated on the success of this and all the other events they organise for our school.”

Seven-year-old pupil Oliver Canter said: “I have had so much fun and will miss Mr Shaw very much.”
