YET more filthy restaurants have been uncovered in Southall with the owners fined thousands for flouting hygiene regulations.

Anil and Sudhir Bhandari, two brothers who own The Punjabee Restaurant in The Broadway were ordered to pay £5,104 each after council inspectors paid a visit to premises in January.

They found evidence of a mouse infestation, a filthy and disorganised kitchen and pots of rodent poison mixed with Indian sweets on the floor.

In a seperate case, Ismail Salah Ahmed who owns the Dalamar African Restaurant in Regina Road was fined £5,415 after rat droppings were found in the food preparation area, as well as under tables and chairs.

The kitchen was also greasy, with dirty fridges and work surfaces. All three men pleaded guilty at Ealing Magistrates Court last week.

Councillor Julian Bell, leader of Ealing Council, said: “It is shocking that people would think that this is an acceptable way to run a food business. Our food safety rules are in place to protect the public and we will do everything in our powers to make sure they are followed.”

Around three restaurants are closed down every month in Southall for food hygiene offences.
