AFTER the second shooting in as many weeks, police figures show guns have been fired in the borough almost 20 times since April.

The latest came on Monday when a teenager was shot in the leg in Hanwell.

That follows a suspected drive-by last Sunday where two men needed hospital treatment for minor injuries.

Worryingly officers have recorded more than 50 gun crimes in the past six months.

They include a spate of shootings across West Ealing and Acton in one night back in June when two people were hurt and an armed raid of a bookmakers in Greenford the month after.

But borough commander Andy Rowell was quick to reassure residents, explaining the total includes incidents where guns were believed to be present but may not have been seen.

He said only a handful of gun crimes had led to someone getting hurt, adding: "There is nothing to link these two crimes. We're working closely with the Metropolitan Police's Operation Trident to investigate these offences and target anyone who carries a gun.

"It remains a very rare occurrence for someone to be injured by a firearm in this borough as the figures show."

He pointed out the number of gun crimes is down three per cent compared to the same period last year.
