HAREFIELD’S missing chicken was reunited with its owner after she appealed through the Gazette for its safe return.

Former battery hen Beep Beep made a bid for freedom when she was let out of her coop in a garden in Newdigate Road East two weeks ago (February 8). The last trace owner Katrina Lee saw of her was some footsteps in the snow that vanished a short distance away.

The 30-year-old was convinced someone had taken the bird in and approached the Gazette to ask for an appeal to help find her.

We put Beep Beep’s picture on last week’s front page and asked our readers if they had seen her.

Just a few hours after the papers hit the shelves on Wednesday morning a neighbour telephoned us to let us know that they had spotted Beep Beep scratching around outside their house on the night she disappeared.

She was being looked after by another neighbour, who kept chickens on their allotment. Beep Beep is now back at home with her fellow hens and unfazed by her adventure.

Miss Lee said: “I’m so pleased to have her back. She is happy as anything and the other hens were pleased to see her.

“I’m really grateful to the Gazette for putting the article in.

“Without that we wouldn’t have been able to find her so a big thank you.”
