A model says she overcame her fears when she took part in Miss Universe Great Britain competition at the weekend, writes Goolistan Cooper .

Unfortunately, 22-year-old Emily Hill from Eastcote did not win the coveted title at the finals in Cardiff on Saturday, but she was still delighted with the way things went.

The blonde, who attended Haydon School in Wiltshire Lane, Eastcote and worked as a lifeguard at Highgrove Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre in Hume Way, Ruislip, said: “Unfortunately I didn't win but every girl that was taking part was amazing.

“I was happy with how things went for me though. I was worried I'd be nervous but the interview went well and I was really happy with how I did in the other rounds.

“So I'm really happy even though I didn't win, I felt I did really well and I didn't get shy or anything.”

Miss Hill started modelling part-time to earn money while studying a fashion design degree at Middlesex University in Hendon. She hopes to carry on with the work until she can realise her dream of setting up her own own fashion line and brand.

She hoped the competition would stand her in good stead for the future. She said: “It was an amazing experience, I met so many lovely girls and made many new friends.”
