RUNNERS who are too young to take part in this year's Ealing Half Marathon are being invited to take on the Ealing Mini Mile challenge instead.
The event will be open to runners aged 6–11 and will take place on the day of the Ealing Half Marathon (Sunday 29 September) at Lammas Park. It will start at 9.30am after the half marathon runners have been sent on their way.
Organisers aim to promote running as a sport accessible to all as well as giving youngsters a chance to experience the atmosphere of a big race. They will also be crossing the same finish line as the half marathon runners.
Event Co-Ordinator Sandra Courtney commented: "We are pleased to introduce the Ealing Mini Mile for 2013, promoting sport and fitness to young people is something that we are passionate about. The Ealing Mini Mile is open to young runners of all abilities, and we are working closely with the local schools to raise awareness of the Ealing Mini Mile. We also expect that a lot of the entries will come from junior members of the local athletics clubs as well as offspring of the Ealing Half Marathon runners who will be in the park to cheer on their Mum or Dad."
She appealed for local businesses to sponsor the Ealing Mini Mile by emailing her at email@example.com or calling 07867 517 918 to discuss.
There are 250 places are available for the Ealing Mini Mile and the £5 entry per child, includes a medal and a t-shirt for all finishers.
Prizes for the different age categories will also be up for grabs and every runner gets their finish time. The race numbers will need to be collected in Lammas Park on race day.
