A country park may be under threat by a development for 4,000 properties which would involve building a road through it.

National Grid has proposed building over the Southall Gas Works site, which will mean building a road from the area through to the south of Minet Country Park. It will then join the Hayes Bypass at Pump Lane, Hayes.

MP John McDonnell, who represents Hayes and Harlington, said: "It is a massive development which will create a huge volume of traffic and pollution and it will destroy the side of the park known as Wild Violet Wood.

"There are also concerns about the impact this will have in terms of increased population and the extra burden it will place on local schools.

"I am also concerned because, although the developers have approached councillors to talk to them, they have been declined, but it is absolutely critical that council-lors get involved in this and that Hilingdon Council starts informing residents about what is happening."
